10. Cancelling ECW

By the time Vince McMahon strolled onto the set of ECW on 2 February 2010 and announced that the show would be cancelled and replaced by new, "groundbreaking" programming (NXT), it was a mercy killing. WWE's version of extreme had veered so far right of the original's left-wing anarchy that it was barely the same product.

The fact McMahon himself chose to deliver the proclamation, instead of just running a graphic or having his announcers do it, shows that he was admitting defeat. WWE's ECW had failed, fallen way below the excitement of the initial One Night Stand shows and had become 'C' level programming on the weekly schedule.

It was time to move on.

McMahon's vision for ECW's rebellious spirit backed by WWE's corporate might had faded over time, and he made the right call by scrapping it when he did. In fact, it's a surprise the show, a one-hour mix of young talent showcases and Raw/SmackDown recaps, had lasted so long.
