This next entry may seem a tad unfair because at the time, the Women’s division was pretty thin. In fact, it was so thin that the females didn’t even have a title to compete for.

So when the company reinstated the vacant Women’s Championship in September 1998, staging a multi-woman tournament was pretty much out of the question.

Instead, the belt was simply inserted into the budding rivalry between Jacqueline and Sable. The pair contesting a mere three-minute match that saw Jacqueline win after Marc Mero reached under the bottom rope and helped keep Sable down for the count.

Admittedly this was more a sign of the times and a result of the lack of depth that the division possessed back in ‘98.

At least they hadn’t decided to bring the title back a week earlier though. On the preceding episode of Monday Night Raw, Sable and Jacqueline had “squared off” in an Evening Gown match. Somehow I feel like that would have been an even less deserving means by which to win a championship.
