4. Droz’ Paralysis

Anyone who’s been following wrestling for a considerable period of time knows the tale of Darren Drozdov. His story is a horrifying example of how thin wrestling’s margins for error are, and shows that even the simplest of moves can result in tragedy.

Droz was wrestling D’Lo Brown in October 1999. Brown went to execute a running Powerbomb (a move he’d used safely hundreds of times before), but couldn’t get a proper grip on Droz’s loose shirt, resulting in a nasty delivery, and Droz landing on his head. The former Legion of Doom affiliate suffered two fractured discs in his neck as a result, and despite the best effort of surgeons after the match, he was left in a quadriplegic state.

The accident was so bad that it was completely removed from the show, and has never been shown to the public. Droz has since regained movement in his upper body and arms but remains wheelchair bound, though he holds no animosity towards Brown nor WWE for the injury.

The accident came just 18 months into his WWE career, and he still suffers from headaches and muscle spasms as a result of the Powerbomb.
