10 Things You Don’t Know About WWE In 1998

The year that changed everything.

As we have seen from previous installments, sometimes the biggest stories in WWF/E happen off screen rather than on screen. Last time, in 1997, we learned that Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels were supposed to face off at Wrestlemania 13, the Road Dogg ended the ECW Invasion, and Vince McMahon tried to re-sign the Ultimate Warrior...again. In 1998, the WWF gained momentum in the Monday Night War against WCW. Stone Cold Steve Austin won the WWF Championship at Wrestlemania, the second incarnation of D-Generation X became fan favorites, and The Rock rose to prominence. With so much happening on- and off-screen, you€™d think you would know everything that went on backstage in the WWF, but you€™d be wrong. There are plenty of little nuggets of trivia that came from this year. Some of these you may have also known about, but simply forgot.

10. The Quebecers Reunited Briefly In 1998

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zBp4IvmCFE We€™ve covered The Quebecers extensively in this series. In late 1993/early 1994, they were the top tag team in the WWF. After they left the WWF, Jacques and Pierre had a very brief run in WCW in 1996 as The Amazing French Canadians (so much for Jacques€™s retirement match). Their run in WCW was forgettable, but what was even more forgettable was the fact that they made a brief return to the WWF in 1998. Jacques and Pierre didn€™t use their Mountie uniforms, rather resorting to using tights with the Canadian Maple Leaf. They even made it to WWF Pay Per View in a losing effort to The Godwinns at No Way Out, as well as participating in the Tag Team Battle Royal at Wrestlemania 14. They were released shortly after. The night after Wrestlemania in Albany, NY, the Quebecers teamed up with Raymond Rougeau in a dark match, which is the only time Jacques teamed with both of his major tag team partners in the same match. It garners confusion as to why the WWF didn€™t feel the need to push a team that only four years earlier was the top team in the company. Perhaps it was due to the fact that they no longer had Johnny Polo, who was doing other things in another company.
