10 Things We Learned From Kenny Omega On Wrestling Observer Radio

AEW plan to bring in a LOT more talent... and the video game will be the "best ever".

One of AEW's quartet of Executive Vice Presidents and current AAA Mega Champion Kenny Omega made a very special guest appearance on an episode of Wrestling Observer Radio this weekend, and it was a thoroughly fascinating listen from start to finish.

Kenny approached the interview with considerable candour, tackling every question fielded to him with full and frank answers. Hosts Jim Valley and Dave Meltzer quizzed the 'Best Bout Machine' on a range of subjects, from Omega's role in the company, where the company could improve, his thoughts on THAT match, and just what's in store with the AEW video game. He didn't shy away from any of these subjects - even if a few of them made him squirm ever so slightly.

The full interview can be heard over at F4WOnline (subscription required), and we recommend you give it a full listen. It's fascinating to hear a man so closely associated with the inner workings of one of today's top wrestling promotions speak so openly and with such relish.

Otherwise, these were the key things we learned from this astonishing session.

10. He Prioritises His Own Matches Last

The first question Omega was asked is what, if anything, he has learned since scaling back his in-ring excellence somewhat to take on board a heightened backstage role as one of AEW's multitudinous Executive VPs.

Without hesitation, Omega responded "time management". He noted that he's often producing between four and five segments per show, which means, out of selfless necessity, he prioritises his own stuff last. The Cleaner revealed that some of his AEW matches have been called on the fly, such was the case when he and Hangman Page faced off against Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara three weeks back. Such was the experience and talent of the four guys involved, you could hardly tell the bout was being planned ad hoc.

Carefully keeping an eye on the clock is a necessary evil when going over by just a few seconds could sacrifice someone else's segment. Nevertheless, the point is to help everybody get over, and Omega thinks it's a "fun challenge".

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
