10 Things We Learned From Kenny Omega On Wrestling Observer Radio

9. He Produces The Women's Division

Kenny Omega AEW interview
Lee South/AEW

Asked just what his producing roles within AEW entail, Omega let on that one of his key responsibilities is the women's division - it's very much his pet project.

If you thought the division was lacking in attention when the group first launched - if not care - that's because it was. Kenny revealed that, at first, it was just he and Brandi Rhodes coordinating female fare. Things are a little different now, with Awesome Kong and Dustin Rhodes both sharing the duties, but for the most part, Omega is still directing matters.

A huge fan of early-'90s Japanese all-women promotion AJW - as is anybody who has seen it - Omega in particular wanted to expose the finest joshi talent, such as champion Riho and Emi Sakura, to a global audience. It's fair to say he's done that, and he promises there's more to come. Not only does he want to launch a women's tag division to draw parity with the men's, but in 2020, he says there'll be even more "interesting and exciting" signings guaranteed to "shake the division up".

Exciting times.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
