10 Things We Learned From Matt Hardy’s Reddit AMA

Matt Fact: He doesn't hate WWE.

As Talk Is Jericho and The Steve Austin Show are making abundantly clear, there's big interest in candid interviews with WWE talents. Peeling back the layers of kayfabe and getting the opportunity for even the slightest backstage detail has become a new currency. The latest to follow that trend is former superstar Matt Hardy, who took to the r/SquaredCircle community on Reddit for his debut AMA, and offered some insight into his career with the company and the industry in general. Inevitably, Reddit throws up some fairly pointless questions - frustratingly, Hardy tends to answer more of those than he does insightful questions, but at least there€™s a mix of industry stories and personal touches. His favourite Matt Fact? €œMatt Strongly Dislikes Mustard€, somewhat unsurprisingly. His favourite grapes? €œGREEN.€ Emphatic. That his wife is the prettiest ever TNA starlet. And then there are the genuinely revelatory bits: that Macho Man Randy Savage was his hero, that he €œdigs€ Finn Balor and thought his brother€™s heel run in TNA was under-rated, and that he didn€™t retire Splash Mountain.

10. Working With TNA In 2015

The potentially touchy subject of working in TNA in 2015 was always going to crop up: the company apparently on rocky ground amidst widespread reports of backstage issues and friction, after all. But for Matt, the key point about TNA right now is that €œnothing in real life is ever as bad as it says on the internet.€ That€™s somewhat predictable, given his association with the company, so it might be worth taking his comments with a pinch of salt: €œFirst off, I love working at TNA right now. The locker room & working environment is great & the freedom that TNA allows it's wrestlers is unparalleled€ Internationally, TNA is doing phenomenal business. I'll openly admit that TNA is in a rebuilding phase after the Hogan-Bischoff era. There may be bumps in the road, but TNA is not going out of business & will soon be starting another period of growth.€ That rebuilding process seemingly focuses mostly on the hierarchy, since the €œlocker room is currently a bunch of great, positive guys. Morale is good. Guys are happy, they're just wanting the office to run more smoothly & efficiently.€ Whether it comes before the end of the deal with Destination America and makes them a viable option for an alternative domestic broadcaster is probably the biggest question.
