10 Things WWE Did Right At Payback

The WWE Payback event from Chicago featured a lot of predictable outcomes, plenty of weapons being used and perhaps the end of some long term feuds. It also might be the last time we see Batista for a few months in a PPV setting although his availability always seems to be changing. All three champions successfully defended their championships with Sheamus, Bad News Barrett and Paige all winning clean. The WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan is still on the shelf with a neck injury, but he did have a role in a newsworthy segment. The tag team champions The Usos had a presence on the show too, even though they weren't in a match. What the show lacked was the element of surprise. There were no heel turns, no surprise finishes and nothing that would be considered a major happening. That's not a bad thing necessarily, but there really was nothing newsworthy about what happened. There were some CM Punk chants although it was not nearly as many as we heard on the Chicago Raw in March when the show was full of them. On Twitter, Punk spent his evening tweeting about his Chicago Blackhawks, who lost their NHL game 7 against the Los Angeles Kings. He did tweet "I love you Chicago" about 15 minutes before the PPV began, so maybe he was made aware of the Punk chants on the Kickoff show. Like most WWE PPVs, there was good in-ring action from top to bottom. WrestleMania is still the best PPV of the year and this was not at that level, but there were still plenty of things that went well. Here are 10 things that WWE did right at Payback.
