10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Backlash

Sometimes, even a well-executed match or angle can prove embarrassing to WWE, and that's what happened when Backlash 2000 completely outdid the previous month's WrestleMania.

At WrestleMania 2000, Triple H defended the WWE World Championship against The Rock, The Big Show, and Mick Foley in a four-way match with a McMahon in every corner. Triple H won when Vince McMahon turned on The Rock, making the McMahon family the stars of the show.

The following month, Rock got a one-on-one rematch with Triple H - and this time, it was announced that Steve Austin (who was out with an injury) would be at ringside. The Rock fought off interference from Shane McMahon and a host of other heels - and when Austin showed up, he did the same. In the end, The Rock beat Triple H, getting his triumphant moment and winning the WWE World Championship.

The problem was that the Backlash main event was so much better than the WrestleMania one that it really should have been on the show of shows. WrestleMania 2000 got mixed reactions, but with a better main event, the card might have gone down in history as a winner. Instead, Backlash reminded everyone how badly WWE bungled it.
