10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Jinder Mahal

The new WWE Champ wasn't laughing in 2014...

Good for Jinder Mahal: it's about time WWE elevated a fresh face to the top of the main event tree. The new WWE Champion's beaming smile is clearly a genuine one too, but much of that happiness probably comes from surprise as much as anything else.

Make no mistake about it, Mahal was at the top of no-one's list when it came to picking World Champions in 2017. Indeed, his rise has come in spite of WWE rather than because of it. Need proof? Examining the guy's career to date should provide enough reasons why Jinder's big win over Randy Orton comes completely out of left field.

When WWE are proudly presenting Mahal as SmackDown's top champ, it (ironically) shouldn't be forgotten that there's so much the promotion would rather fans didn't dig up from his past. Tough, because some of these gems only enhance Jinder's real rags to riches story...

10. Mahal Became Depressed Due To His WWE Role

Any kid growing up dreaming of becoming a WWE star would be horrified to picture their TV heroes camped in a car outside the venue, scared to go in. That's exactly what Jinder Mahal told Chris Jericho he did during a recent interview. The Maharaja was truly despondent over his role.

Knowing he'd be jobbing to literally anyone else on the roster, Mahal admitted to feeling downhearted and borderline depressed over what WWE's creative team may have in mind for him. That's sad, and definitely something Vince McMahon wouldn't want anyone knowing. Wrestling is supposed to be a dream job, after all.

By the time WWE discarded Jinder in the Summer of 2014, he was ready to go. Months (if not years) of staring at the lights for everybody and anybody will do that to a guy, it seems. Mahal wanted more than just being on shows, he longed to be treated with respect by those penning storylines. He'd have to wait for that distinction though.
