10 Times Vince McMahon Was Made Somebody's Bitch

8. Jeff Jarrett, No Mercy 1999

Stories of the Ultimate Warrior "holding Vince McMahon up" the night of SummerSlam '91 have been overblown and turned into a mythical description of the events surrounding what actually transpired in the lead up to that evening. The widely-believed story of Warrior impulsively demanding a large sum of money (somewhere in the area of $500,000) actually applies more to Jeff Jarrett's handling of his scheduled No Mercy 1999 match with Chyna than it does the Match Made In Hell. Jarrett's contract had expired the week before, yet he was the reigning Intercontinental Champion and in the middle of a feud with Chyna. Jarrett would not be re-signing with the WWF and made it known he was heading to WCW. The WWF wanted 'Double J' to drop the title to Chyna, but Jarrett demanded a hefty lump sum up-front payment from McMahon, Vince had little choice and acquiesced to the Nashville native, which was the right call for business, but for Vince personally, Jeff Jarrett had covered him with egg. Obviously, the move is one that cost Jeff any chance of a future WWE career, and considering the power Vince McMahon would come to yield following his 2001 purchase of WCW, it is one Jeff probably regrets. But on the night of October 17, 1999, Jeff Jarrett made Vince McMahon his bitch.
