SummerSlam is one of WWE's biggest Pay-Per-Views of the year. Traditionally, the event bridged the gap between WrestleMania and Survivor Series, before King Of The Ring was added to the line-up in 1993. Cheerfully, the event has always performed admirably on PPV, and the company regularly pull out big matches to try and make the show as grand as possible. Regardless of any good intentions, there have been a ton of stinkers at SummerSlam. Featured here are 10 of the worst culprits, and this article tries to explore exactly why the creative team felt these matches would work. In fairness, some of them should have been better than they turned out, but others were doomed to fail from the start. The reasons are varied. From performers who should never have reached such a platform, to those who simply didn't do themselves justice, these are 10 of the most unbelievably dreadful SummerSlam bouts in history. When looking back at one of their most infamous events, WWE officials would rather fans didn't draw attention to these matches. Unfortunately for them, the writers need to be called to task for their crimes. Big events such as the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania have thankfully managed to keep lofty standards over the years, but SummerSlam has definitely been a mixed bag, and here's why.
