Ladders in wrestling are peculiar things. Ladder matches tend to be more consistent than most gimmick matches in terms of quality, and despite more and more happening all the time audiences are still pretty receptive to them. The briefcase concept is now a little tired, but we still do enjoy the Money in the Bank ladder matches.

Professional wrestlers don't use ordinary ladders, though. There is something magical about ladders in professional wrestling. The longer a match lasts, the harder they are to climb, and the eventual climb to the top of the ladder to retrieve whatever is at the top is arduous to say the least.

Of course, this goes out of the window if you're going up top to perform a move. In that case, the ladders are much easier to climb.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
