10 Wrestlers Who Became Successful After Getting Repackaged
4. Triple H
When he first debuted under the name Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Paul Levesque had one of those lame gimmicks that wouldnt have gotten him anywhere beyond the mid-card. Sure, the Connecticut blue-blooded snob garnered a lot of boos from fans who didnt want someone telling them hes better than they are, but it wasnt a gimmick that wouldve survived the WWEs Attitude Era. Hunter, being a smart man, managed to convince the company higher-ups to re-package him as simply Triple H, and he was an instrumental figure in the formation of D-Generation X, which was one of the main gimmicks spearheading the edgy, more adult-oriented programming. Alongside Shawn Michaels, Triple H would become the poster child for the new era of WWF programming, until his top spot was replaced by Stone Cold Steve Austin. But even if Steve Austin was the biggest star, Triple H and DX were still central to WWE defeating WCW in the Monday Night Wars. After that, Triple H demonstrated that he could be an excellent heel as a sort of bully with serious political influence in the WWE. Backed by his storyline (followed by real-life) marriage to Stephanie McMahon, 'the Game' Triple H became one of the most successful superstars in WWE history, winning multiple World titles, tag titles, the Royal Rumble match, and has main-evented WrestleMania on numerous occasions. Without a doubt, none of that wouldve happened if he stayed with his Connecticut snob gimmick.
