10 Wrestlers Who Retired Way Too Early

6. Magnum TA

Magnum TA will go down in history as one of the great 'What If?'s of professional wrestling. The man had it all - he was young, charismatic, popular, talented, and to say he had that Tom Selleck thing going on would be an understatement. It was clear to everyone and his dog that Magnum was being groomed to be the next big thing in Jim Crockett Promotions.

On 14 October 1986, everything changed. Magnum TA was involved in an extremely serious car crash that saw two of his vertebrae explode. He wasn't expected to survive, let alone walk again. Doctors said that his physical conditioning saved his life, but the paralysis of the right side of his body meant his wrestling days were over. Magnum was just 27 years old at the time.

The prevailing belief is that Magnum TA was going to go on to defeat Ric Flair for the World Heavyweight Championship at Starrcade 1986, and a true star was to be born. How different would the professional wrestling landscape look today if Magnum TA wasn't forced to retire at 27? JCP would have had a megastar of their own, and the 1990s may have gone down very differently.

Hypotheticals are pointless however. Magnum TA retired at the miserably young age of 27.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
