For a long time, WWE struggled to find the right babyface to take charge of the Cruiserweight division.

As strong a champion as Neville was in 2017, there weren't any equally strong faces to oppose him, and those who had the potential to were quickly beaten and disposed of (see: Austin Aries and Akira Tozawa). Enzo Amore proved to be better as a heel than as a babyface, and thus the search continued heading into the new year.

Once Rich Swann got suspended, WWE finally realized that the star they were looking for had been right in front of them the entire time: Cedric Alexander. The former Ring Of Honor wrestler had been a part of the division and having great matches since Day 1, yet didn't get his shot at the super stardom until earlier this year.

All throughout the Cruiserweight Championship Tournament as well as at WrestleMania 34, Alexander had outstanding performances and gradually won over the audience. His ultimate title win at WrestleMania was his crowning achievement, though he has continued to contest awesome matches on 205 Live each week since then.

The Age of Alexander is officially upon us.
