A finisher is an important tool that a wrestler can use to stand out from the pack and create an identity for themselves. It is more than just a move used to finish it a match. A wrester's finisher is part of who they are in the ring, something that fans instantly associate with them. Can you imagine Stone Cold without The Stunner? The package wouldn't quite be complete, would it? Often times a wrestler's finisher is a take off of another standard move. A basic move with a little extra something to make it the wrestler's own. Shawn Michaels wasn't the first wrestler to use the superkick but boy did he make it his own. Another way to go is by taking someone else's move and using it. This is usually done once that wrestler is retired and no longer using that move or in honour of a deceased wrestler. Generally, the protocol for borrowing an active wrestler's move is to contact them and ask if you can use it. It's the respectful thing to do. Of course, there are those who deft wrestling etiquette and just take somebody's move anyway, despite not being granted 'permission' to use it. At the end of the day, everything in wrestling is stolen to some degree, but the line between thievery and flattery can be a thin one.
