WWE Raw is at its very best when its shocking and unpredictable. All too often the show is formulaic, but watching it every week is worth it for those rare occasions when something unexpected happens. That's when magic occurs for the viewer, as if they're back watching pro wrestling for the very first time. Booking these sort of moments that "fans never saw coming" is increasingly difficult for Vince McMahon. That's the challenge WWE faces in the modern world, with the internet and technology making surprises more and more difficult. Say for an example a wrestler is being flown in for a shock return, you can guarantee he'll have had hundreds of camera phones snapping him in the airport. Within seconds, that's all over the internet. The loss of magic could be a reason for Raw's declining television ratings. Fans more often than not know what is coming each Monday night. WWE can be their own worst enemy, constantly repeating segments that were stale as long back as fifteen years ago. But every now and again, WWE still manage to shock the viewer. It used to be a staple of the Raw brand to be unpredictable. Some of Raw's greatest ever moments revolved around things that you never saw coming.
