15 Great Heel Versus Heel Matches You Must See

The times that good stood by while evil battled evil between the ropes.

Professional wrestling is a technicolor morality play, where blatant villains battle obvious heroes with the subtlety cranked all the way up to zero. It's simplified to the point of absurdity: there are two locker rooms, each one corresponding to a moral absolute, and that's it. If you want to break up with your tag team partner, one of you is going to have to stop shaving and start wearing a leather jacket, there's no way around it. Probably 90% of all wrestling matches ever wrestled have used the good old all-American heel/face dynamic, but the remainder are interesting cases. Most of that remaining 10% are face vs. face match-ups, replete with good sportsmanship and lots of respectful handshakes, but there still exists a vanishingly small number of heel vs. heel matches. They are a riskier choice than either alternative; with heel/face and face/face dynamics, the audience is guaranteed at least one party it will like and want to see succeed. Heel/heel matches run the risk of the fans not choosing a side at all, but if the performers can pull it off, the results can be awesome. Sometimes, one heel will embrace his inner babyface, and wrestle a cleaner or more athletic style to coax out audience support. Other times, the competitors will simply go all out trying to beat each other by any means necessary, and the audience will show their support by cheering both wrestlers. In any case, they're a definite rarity, and they're always fascinating.
