Shinsuke did not leave New Japan Pro Wrestling to become just another WWE guy. He wanted to work with the best of the best and prove he could be a legitimate main event star overseas. John Cena, meanwhile, is clearly using his clout as the company’s golden boy to get the best possible matches, as evidenced by his feuds with Kevin Owens and AJ Styles.

Maybe they can help each other out.

For hardcore fans, there’s nothing more intriguing than the prospect of Nakamura vs. Cena. One of New Japan’s all-time biggest stars versus one of WWE’s all-time biggest stars. From a backstage standpoint, there's also the added intrigue of Nakamura, being one of Triple H’s biggest acquisitions, squaring off with Vince McMahon’s last truly great creation.

Moreover, it would just be a great match. Cena has convincingly stopped all chants of “you can’t wrestle” that have been thrown at him in the past, and Nakamura basically only brings out his A-game for the biggest possible matches. Fans are dying to know what kind of chemistry the two would have in the ring.

And, of course, WWE likely owe Cena a high-caliber match like this after he spent this last WrestleMania participating in cross-promotion for Total Bellas in the form of a mixed tag match against The Miz and Maryse. While credit is due to the latter two for making the build-up hilarious and entertaining, that kind of match at WrestleMania is a waste of John’s time, especially nowadays. Cena turned 40 this past April, and while it’s clear he has a lot left in the tank, he’s not gonna be around forever, especially now that Hollywood is taking up more and more of his time.

WWE should be spending John’s golden years giving the fans all the high-caliber, high-quality, fresh matches featuring him they can while he’s still able to perform at the level he does. A world title bout at WrestleMania against Nakamura would be such a match.
