7 Reasons Brock Lesnar Shouldn't Break CM Punk's Modern WWE World Championship Record
1. It Sets A Dangerous Precedent
It is no secret that there is one rule for Brock Lesnar and one rule for the rest of the WWE roster, but does that mean that everything has to kowtow to The Beast Incarnate? Lesnar has spent the majority of his WWE Universal Championship reign sleepwalking through defences, leaving most of the heavy lifting to his opponents. With the exception of his 2017 Survivor Series match with AJ Styles, all of his singles bouts have been major disappointments.
WWE has put mountains of work into ensuring that the brand is the draw, that no individual superstar is bigger than WWE itself, yet it seems desperate in its willingness to drop to its knees in front of Brock Lesnar. The company has cut the legs from under a plethora of potential megastars, sabotaging itself in order to prevent something like the CM Punk situation from happening again. This is true for everyone, with the exception of Brock Lesnar.
Despite this lack of respect and almost constant humiliation, WWE is about to reward Brock Lesnar with the longest world title reign in modern WWE history. A part-time superstar who doesn’t seem to give a hoot about the company and the title he carries is about to usurp a champion who worked every night, worked injured and did everything he could to put the championship front and centre. That may well just be the most WWE thing in recent times.
