The future of WWE may well be on the line.

Judging by most prospective WrestleMania 33 match cards, the outcome of the WWE Fastlane 2017 main event is a foregone conclusion. Goldberg will defeat Kevin Owens in less than the amount of time it takes to cook a good steak and take control of the WWE Universal Championship before dropping said red title to 'The Beast Incarnate' Brock Lesnar at the Show of Shows. Chalk it up: it's already decided.

Over the next couple of weeks WWE fans worldwide will undoubtedly work themselves into believing that Owens can pull off a shock victory, only to have their dreams shattered on March 5 with yet another example of WWE sticking to the predictable when the past involved. Goldberg vs. Lesnar will be the 'Mania 33 main event after all.

But what if those hopes come from a position of logic, a position of wisdom? What if WWE is blind to the fact that not only should Kevin Owens beat Goldberg at Fastlane, but Kevin Owens must beat Goldberg at Fastlane? In some respects this match is about more than the Universal Championship.

7. Lesnar Vs. Goldberg III Isn't About The Championship

Whilst the commonly stated argument that Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg is too big and therefore does not need the WWE Unviersal Championship is true to an extent, you have to remember that this is the same company who ended a record-breaking WWE Championship reign in order to make The Rock vs. John Cena a title match. WWE simply doesn't view championships the same way that fans do anymore.

So whether or not Lesnar vs. Goldberg 'needs' the championship is irrelevant, but the story itself has nothing to do with championships. The Battle of Brock and Bill is a war about dominance and intimidation, a conflict to decide who is the most physically dominating of two of wrestling's baddest men.

Lesnar vs. Goldberg is a showcase match from outside the realms of the everyday in professional wrestling, and as such the story need not be sullied by trying to make it part of consistent canon. Lesnar and Goldberg should be doing battle to see who can stand up at the end, not to see who can take home a championship.
