7 Reasons Undertaker Vs Lesnar 3 Is A Disaster Waiting To Happen

A look at why the third part of the Lesnar/Taker trilogy could be its ultimate downfall.

The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar; two of the biggest names in wrestling, and two of WWE's guaranteed moneymakers. On the surface, slapping their match on the Hell in a Cell card - an otherwise underwhelming PPV - seems to make perfect sense. The Undertaker's history with the stipulation is as well celebrated as it is well documented, and it even harks all the way back to their torch-passing war at No Mercy 2002. Short of Zach Gowan hopping down to ringside to ruin the finish, nothing could make it more exciting or more historically relevant. No right-minded fan wants this match to fail. WWE would benefit immensely if Lesnar and Taker put on a thrilling 'Match of the Year' candidate (it could even give the company a desperately-needed boost in the midst of a historic slump) - but that simply isn't going to happen. The deck is thoroughly stacked against both men, and you're about to find out why.

7. Their Last Two Matches Haven't Been Great

Lesnar's win at WrestleMania 30 was one of the most shocking moments in wrestling history, of that there can be no doubt - but the Earth-shattering nature of the match's result has partially hidden the fact that the bout itself wasn't good. Undertaker built a reputation on delivering WrestleMania classics with outrageous consistency, especially at an unthinkably late stage of his career. He delivered consecutive show-stealers opposite Batista, Edge, Shawn Michaels (twice), Triple H (twice), and CM Punk - an unmatched run of form on the grandest stage of all. Then he came up against Lesnar. Their WrestleMania bout wasn't a patch on Taker's previous matches, a plodding encounter many attributed to a nasty bump taken by the Deadman early on. However true that may be, the fact remains that he hasn't been the same ever since. His subsequent bout against Bray Wyatt failed to impress, and this year's SummerSlam rematch with Brock - although an improvement - was marred by a momentum-sapping screwy finish. It could be argued that Brock and Taker simply can't put on a classic match together. Some opponents don't mesh too well, however high-profile they might be. There's no reason to expect a rapid improvement come Hell in a Cell.
