8 Biggest Disappointments Going Into WrestleMania 31

6. The Andre The Giant Battle Royal Is Pointless

Last year, the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal had a lot of attention going in. Hulk Hogan championed the match in the weeks leading up, wrestlers announced their participation with fervour, and it made winning it look like a huge deal. It certainly looked like a huge deal when Cesaro echoed Hulk Hogan's immortal feat of scoop slamming a giant. It was a nice little nod from wrestling's future to it's past, and it felt like a crowning moment for Cesaro, who had been on an almighty roll at the time. Sadly, it was all for naught. Cesaro's win did him no favours during his subsequent downward spiral, and the prestigious Andre The Giant trophy that had been made such a big deal of was destroyed the very next night on Raw. It seemed that all the fuss was for nothing, but at least it was all done with now. The ATGMBR seemed like a nice thing to have on an anniversary of Wrestlemania, but there seemed little point in repeating it. Suprising, then, when it became clear that the Battle Royal would be returning this year. Surprising mostly because we now know that winning it means nothing. WWE seem to think so too, given a look at the participants being a who's who of jobbers and wrestlers that Creative have no ideas for. Quite frankly, this is a little bewildering. WWE take a lot of pride in Wrestlemania being their biggest and best show of the entire year, which means that every match should be a big attraction. By contrast, this match is the very definition of "filler material". If you're actually attending Wrestlemania, go to the bar, bathroom or the merchandise stand before this match, because you can guarantee that they'll all be busy during this match. All is not lost, however. The NXT brand is holding a tournament the day before Wrestlemania, with the winner getting a spot in this match. Hopefully the NXT star goes on to win, since it'll actually mean something to them.
