8 (In)famous Fatherhood Moments In WWE History

Fatherhood is a beautiful thing. However, WWE sometimes make it strange and horrible.

It's Father's Day again, which means for many of us celebrating our dads and what they've done for us, or, for those of us with kids, to relish in the joy of raising them.

WWE is a family business, with Vince McMahon's promotional lineage going back to his grandfather. Similarly, the company loves to celebrate the legacies of their superstars, and even gets the parents and children involved with various storylines.

From Rocky Johnson helping a young Rock at WrestleMania 13, to Hulk Hogan trying desperately to promote his daughter Brooke's music career, dads have played an important role in WWE storytelling. Frankly, most of them are bizarre, hilarious, and head-scratching. It's only natural in a company like WWE that holds nothing sacred where even the concepts of fatherhood and family are tossed around and abused like a beachball, thus producing memorable moments of television (for better or worse).

Some of these moments are great, some of them are terrible, some of them reside in that unclear center, but all of them have their own take on what it means to be a dad in wrestling.

8. Vince Disowns His Son

Vince and Shane have had so many wonderful memories together, it’s hard to pinpoint a single one to highlight. Do we celebrate the time they teamed up in a ladder match to fight Steve Austin for control of the company? Do we remember the time Vince put Shane in a Hell in a Cell match against The Undertaker? What about when DX dumped poo all over them? All wonderful and cherished father-son bonding moments that Harry Chapin wished he did with his son in the song Cat’s in the Cradle.

Instead, however, let’s talk about the feud Vince and Shane had back in 2001. Vince, anxious over the loss of his youth, did what every man does during a midlife crisis: put his wife into a vegetative state, keep her sedated with drugs, and have an affair right in front of her. Somehow, Shane was a bit miffed at seeing his mother treated like this, and challenged Vince to a fight.

In the build to their match at WrestleMania X-Seven, Shane and Vince fought a war of words. Perhaps the biggest barb thrown was in Shane’s direction, as Vince McMahon, on live television, told Shane, to his face: “I will never forgive your mother for giving birth to you.”

There’s something for the greeting card.
