Goodness, hasn't this one hit us for six.

The wrestling world is reeling at the news that the legendary 'American Dream' Dusty Rhodes is no longer with us. Real name Virgil Runnels Jr, he was and will forever be one of the most influential men in the history of professional wrestling; a man who inspired generations.

For it was this multi-promotion Hall of Famer who lived his American Dream. A man who made the most of what he was given, Rhodes treated us to some of the greatest rivalries and matches through the history of the sport; even while he boasted something of an unfavourable look and unmistakeable lisp. Rhodes embraced his characteristics, used them to his advantage and soared over the course of his distinguished career, which spanned nearly 40 years by all accounts.

Rhodes was far from the archetypal, modern-day WWE Superstar, but he'll forever live as one of the greatest. He was proof that a professional wrestler does not need to be 6'7" and chiselled out of stone.

And why might that be? Well, because Dusty oozed charisma. When he picked up a microphone, you were compelled to listen to his words - which were spat out with a natural, unteachable flair.

Bearing in mind that Dusty Rhodes is one of, if not the greatest professional wrestler to ever cut a promo, read on for nine of Dusty's most unforgettable interview segments, complete with video.

You'll never be forgotten, Dusty.

"Your ass is mine!"

Cutting a short promo alongside Magnum TA, Dusty came out with a passionate outburst against "Hollywood Wrestling", and a clear message to Ole and Arn Anderson, that, well, their asses were going to get got.

This one was proof that Rhodes could get his point across in a quick and meaningful fashion. Of course that's what he was known for, but even just by the telling facial expression - everything was believable.

You can bet that these were key promo-cutting aspects that Dusty was trying to drum into the NXT stars of tomorrow before he so unfortunately left us.
