Brock Lesnar Vs Roman Reigns WWE Title Match For WrestleMania 31 - Report

Will Brock Lesnar be WWE Champion August 2014 to March 2015?

Reigns Lesnar There is talk of WWE booking Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns as a WWE title feud over WrestleMania season, reports the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. This is a long term plan which would see Reigns win the Royal Rumble and later topple Lesnar to become WWE Champion at WrestleMania 31. The idea is that this strong babyface journey, triumphing over such a dominant heel superstar, would make Reigns the 'new John Cena'. He would become the number one star, building upon the already impressive reactions he is getting in 2014. The Observer report states that the plans could include Lesnar beating John Cena for the WWE title at SummerSlam. With Network subscriptions expiring, September's Night Of Champions needs to be equally as big, so Lesnar is also booked for that show. Beyond that, how does WWE get around having a part time Champion? They did it with The Rock in 2013, but what was the smaller window of January to April. It's smart to build Lesnar up as Champion over a number of months, but they currently don't have a contract in place for numerous dates. The Observer points out that "all deals are open to renegotiation", so maybe WWE simply arrange with Lesnar for him to work at least a few more pay per view dates and the occasional Raw shows. The Rock previously did a similar deal in those regards. WWE have to ask themselves, what's better, a Randy Orton level character as WWE Champion at every show, or a Brock Lesnar WWE Champion at the occasional show? The answer from a commercial and mainstream interest would be Brock Lesnar marketed as WWE Champion. The company could book around his missing dates with video packages and Paul Heyman promos, you've got to think that the extraordinary Lesnar as Champion has more impact over a few shows than an ordinary wrestler as Champion would have on every show. It would do great business for Lesnar to be a dominant heel champion in WrestleMania season. Traditionally, the best storyline in that period is always a babyface chasing a heel champion. The journey for Reigns to win the Rumble and face up against Lesnar at Mania looks like a proper WWE style main event. These are two big guys with a great look, although the worry would be that Lesnar had a bad match with Undertaker this year and Reigns is largely unproven in the ring. It could be a horrible match, just as easily as it could be a great brawl. Commercially, Lesnar should be an excellent choice to run with the WWE Championship. He did astoundingly well in the headline position for UFC and would bring substantial casual interest into WWE in the Champion role. Just take a look at how The Rock improved business by running as WWE Champion in 2013, Lesnar has the same mainstream appeal. After ending The Undertaker streak and presumably beating John Cena at SummerSlam for a title run, Brock Lesnar is going to be properly over in WWE for the first time since returning in 2012. If he then goes on to put over Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 31, WWE will have made a true new megastar to carry the company beyond the John Cena era.
