John Cena Vs Roman Reigns Was Original WWE WrestleMania Plan
Insider news on plan after Seth Rollins was injured.
John Cena versus Roman Reigns for the WWE Title was the original WrestleMania 32 plan, Dave Meltzer is reporting in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. That was what WWE came up with when Seth Rollins went out injured in November, but they later changed the plan to give both men different matches. It is believed that Cena was due to face The Undertaker, but the shoulder injury Cena suffered means he'll now be missing WrestleMania for the first time in over a decade. It would have certainly popped big interest if WWE had went with Cena Reigns. The franchise star versus the new franchise star, it would most likely have been a passing of the torch moment. Similar to Hulk Hogan doing the job for Ultimate Warrior at WrestleMania 6 in 1990, WWE would have used the occasion for Cena to put Reigns over as the new company star. Hopefully it would have worked out better than the Hogan / Warrior transition. The reason they decided against this and went with Cena Vs Undertaker is unknown, but Cena is widely expected to have a Reigns feud at some point in the future. His eventual return could be built around it. As for Reigns, he has became the franchise star by default. He's riding a wave of momentum and will likely emerge even more fully with Cena now gone for nine months.
