Kana Reveals Why She Signed With WWE

New WWE NXT women's wrestler on why she made the jump from Japan.

New WWE NXT women's wrestler Kana recently conducted an interview with Channel Guide Magazine to discuss a number of topics, including her experience at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn, her thoughts on head NXT women's trainer Sara Amato, and much more. During the interview, Kana was also asked about why she decided to sign with WWE and move across the Pacific from her native Japan.
€œIn the end, it was not a difficult decision to make. As a competitor, you always want to perform on the biggest stage, and there is no bigger stage than WWE. I was looking for a new challenge, and when the opportunity presented itself. I jumped at it.€
As was previously reported, it was revealed at the latest set of WWE NXT television tapings that Kana will go by the ring name Asuka. The name has it's roots in Japanese wrestling lore, as it is inspired by legendary wrestler Lioness Asuka. During the 1980s, Lioness Asuka was part of an incredibly popular tag team in Japan called Crush Gals. Kana also discussed the possibility of working with NXT Women's Champion Bayley and WWE main roster star Charlotte down the line.
€œI witnessed Bayley win the women€™s championship and that is a goal of mine, so I definitely want to face off against her." €œI have also followed Charlotte, and would love to compete with her. As a competitor, you always want to face the best, and that€™s what I plan on doing.€
Kana's official debut on television, where she signs a contract in-ring with William Regal, is scheduled to air on WWE NXT on September 23.
