When Booker T was appointed SmackDown General Manager in 2012, he was put in a tough position. The brand split had been over for a year, and gone with it was any reason to watch SmackDown. The blue brand had become an out-and-out 'B-show', with no major developments independent of Raw.

Still, Booker T was a welcome change from John Laurinaitis, who had been all over both brands prior to his storyline firing. He brought former GM Teddy Long in as an adviser, and demoted Eve Torres, who had been an Executive Administrator under Laurinaitis, to assistant.

Unfortunately, tensions soon began to rise between Booker T and Teddy Long. The former SmackDown GM started to book matches without Booker's okay, and the General Manager became angry. When Booker needed surgery, Long filled in for him, and upon his return, they butted heads once again.

After about a year as GM, Booker's tenure came to an end - he was fired by Vince McMahon and replaced with SmackDown's final GM, Vickie Guerrero.
