During the late nineties, Kane and X-Pac had become the ultimate tag team. From a narrative point of view, this was the first time that we'd seen Kane show some real human emotion, and he had even became romantically linked with Tori. But an exceptional twist in the story saw X-Pac low-blow Kane to prove his loyalty to D-Generation X. If that wasn't enough, X-Pac then revealed that he'd been secretly involved with Tori behind Kane's back. The Big Red Monster was institutionalised and absent from WWE programming for quite some time.

But on the 7 February edition of Raw, Kane would make his first ever return to WWE, and it was an awe-inspiring moment. DX were competing in a 10-man tag match, and the ring had become congested as multiple superstars brawled. The arena went dark, and Paul Bearer appeared on the aisle with his signature smile. Then the Big Red Machine headed down to the ring and the arena went wild. Kane made short work of all in the ring, proving once again that he should not be messed with.

Kane has returned to WWE on many occasions throughout his illustrious career, but his first comeback remains his best.
