This would probably sit on top of a lot of people's 'CM Punk Characters' list, but for me it is slightly edged out by what is to come. That shouldn't be a slight on this character however, as ironically it led to CM Punk truly being the best in the world at what he does.

After turning heel in the summer of 2009, Punk's legs were cut out from underneath him by The Undertaker, so a more sinister direction was taken with his heel straight edge character. Punk went full cult-leader, enlisting the services of Luke Gallows and Serena in his Straight Edge Society. It led to Punk becoming the most hated heel in professional wrestling.

Punk grew his hair and allowed the beard to flourish, creating a beautiful juxtaposition with the shaven heads of his followers. He was as zealous as they come, spewing bile and hate in the direction of anyone without the discipline or self respect to follow his words.

The SES would eventually be buried by Big Show for reasons we'll never really know, but for the first half of 2010 CM Punk was the most engaging figure on WWE TV. One year later, he would reclaim that position.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
