Ax and Smash of Demolition had to put up with a lot of crap during their tenure with WWE. They were Vince McMahon's answer to the Road Warriors and shamelessly stole their look and style of wrestling much to the irritation of the NWA and the bemusement of the Road Warriors themselves. As a rip off version of the Road Warriors (who were the tag team of the eighties) Ax and Smash had to work their studded socks off to get any recognition whatsoever as a great team in their own right. The thing is...they were a great team in their own right but the gimmick they had been given to work with meant it took an extra long time for people to take their work seriously.
Debuting in 1987 and winning their first of three tag team titles in 1988 Demolition were at least fortunate in that they got to work in the most talent heavy tag team division ever assembled and it is a testament to their ability that they were able to stay at the top of that mountain for near on two years. Whilst their fall from grace was alarmingly fast once it started (and the less said about the addition of Crush the better) it cannot take away from the superb clashes they had with Strike Force, The Rockers, The Hart Foundation, The British Bulldogs, The Killer Bees and The Brain Busters.
