Professional wrestling is often a reflection of the times in which they live. Be they times of war, economic strife, cultural changes, or just a statement that the owner of the company wants to make in response to sociopolitical criticism, real life politics has been used to freshen up characters and angles. Wars, foreign relations, political platforms, and even the stock market are all fair game. Of course, professional wrestling isn€™t real life. It is tightly controlled and knows what it wants. It is a business used to get people invested and emotional in the cards presented to them. If an action by a character is going to get not only the audience that is watching talking, but encourages people who don€™t watch the product and gets the attention of mainstream media, it only encourages more people to watch the product. More often than not these stories are used to make crowds angry, sometimes at the expense of taste and even basic decency. The WWF/E has famously intertwined real life political troubles into invoking the passions of its audience and building up bad guys for its good guys to vanquish.
