WWE: 10 Times Real Life Political Troubles Fuelled Top Heels

10. La Resistance

The stable of Renee Dupree, Sylvan Grenier and later, Rob Conway was based on a truism: The French in any capacity can be easily hated. They made themselves rather open targets when George Bush invaded Iraq after 9/11 and the United States€™ most vocal opponent was its usual ally France.

La Resistance€™s promos fed on the embodiment of all the criticisms of the way the United States handled the situation, stating that diplomacy was the answer, that the United Nations should take care of things, that America needed to stop being a bully. On the April 28, 2003 RAW, they confronted Scott Steiner over comments he made supporting troops in a debate with Chris Nowinski three weeks earlier. The two went down and destroyed Steiner in an impressive debut.

Nevertheless they mostly served as cowardly whipping boys whenever the WWE wanted to show their support for the troops and beat on the €œlook how patriotic we are€ drum. On a week when the United States had some particularly encouraging victories in Iraq, the answer to La Resistance€™s taunts was Goldberg waving old glory. Goldberg thoroughly decimated the duo and broke their flag as Jim Ross hailed it as a tribute to America€™s troops.
