WWE Backstage News - When Will The Shield Break Up?

The WWE have no plans to break The Shield up, reports the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter. The group have impressed since going babyface, leading to the decision being made that all previous split plans should be dropped. There is now zero chance of any break-up happening in the near future. This is quite different from WWE's plans at the start of 2014, the Shield were due to fall out around WrestleMania 30 with Roman Reigns emerging as a singles star. Company plans have also changed for Randy Orton. He had been set for a babyface push tied in with a merchandise drive. With Evolution back on the scene that's no longer the case. The top four singles babyfaces for further down the line (in order) are scheduled to be Cena, Bryan, Cesaro and Sheamus. The Observer report notes that this was accurate as of a week ago, but Sheamus could now be going heel instead. That's the way things are in WWE, particularly in creative, plans can change suddenly. The company are bullish on Cesaro's potential as a face, with the list suggesting that he could be a top good guy within a few months. If that's the case then one scenario could be a match against Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam. It makes sense that they would turn against each other given their mutual association under Paul Heyman. It would essentially be the same storyline WWE ran last year with CM Punk. That could end up being a slow burner, with previous reports stating that Cesaro vs Lesnar was a potential WrestleMania 31 match. It's unsurprising to see Cena at the top of the babyface list ahead of Bryan. Despite what you hear in the arenas, Cena is still the biggest merchandise star and most widely appealing recognised WWE star. The tease of a heel turn is exactly that, a tease.
