Olympic Gold Medalist Kurt Angle has been interviewed on The Overtime with Grande & Max podcast regarding his dream opponents for a retirement match and unsurprisingly the former WWE Champion only named past opponents from WWE. Fans have anticipated a return to McMahon-land since Angle left the company for TNA Wrestling back in 2006. Despite 7 years as one of TNA's top talents, in my opinion it feels extremely likely that Angle will appear in a WWE ring again before he ends his hugely successful career. Despite telling the show's hosts that he doesn't know where he will be wrestling when he retires because as he put it he "might not get the choice" he quickly made it clear that he would anticipate ending his career in WWE when he listed the potential names for a final opponent:
"The picks would be between Undertaker, Brock Lesnar, or obviously John Cena or Dwayne Johnson. Hopefully one of the guys comes down to TNA and I can retire there, but you don't know what's going to happen."
Although he did name drop TNA in his statement it is obvious that no one he has mentioned is ever likely to appear for TNA which further proves that Angle has one last run with WWE on the mind. Despite being considered a TNA guy and an absolute company man (Angle is close friends with Dixie Carter) Kurt will always be seen as an ex-WWE wrestler who dominated their main event for years, winning no less than 6 WWE Championships and countless other titles. For a number of years the relationship between Angle and WWE owner Vince McMahon seemed strained with Angle describing WWE as a horrible place to work. Since then he has changed his views completely often describing Vince as a father figure. We would expect Kurt's pro-WWE attitude in the press to remain as his run with TNA draws closer to its natural end but with his long history of health issues regarding alleged addictions to pain medication who's to say that WWE would be quite so quick to welcome him back with open arms?
