WWE: Was The Rock's 2011-2013 Return Electrifying Or A Short Circuit?

dwayne the rock johnson The most electrifying man in all of entertainment. The People's Champion. The Brahma Bull. He is known by these and many more names, but suffice to say that when it comes to wrestlers that are true megastars, one can hardly go past Dwayne 'the Rock' Johnson. His ability to wow the audience when he was in the WWE was phenomenal, so it seemed a natural transition to move on and try his hand at the silver screen- a move that few begrudged as he had given sterling service to the WWE. So, when the Rock returned as part of a 3 year deal culminating in two main events at Wrestlemania 27 and 28, one could be forgiven for thinking that the idea was a natural- with nothing to really hold it back. After all- who wouldn't want to see the Great One (there's another name) back in the squared circle laying the smack down against many of these people of the PG Era? Yeah, well... There is no doubt that while the Rock drew some numbers to Wrestlemania, many were disappointed with his return- thinking that it had the potential to be so much more. In No. 3 of these articles (Part 1 was the Miz's championship reign and Part 2 examined the World Heavyweight Championship), I will look at the virtues of the Rock's return before looking at why it didn't go as well as it could have. Then I'll conclude by looking at how it might have been made better with the benefit of hindsight.
