Cross Promotion
There is no doubt that the Rock appeals to more than the hardcore wrestling fan (the unkind may suggest he appeals to anything other than the hardcore wrestling fan). Being a massive movie star it makes sense to give wrestling that same sort of showbiz legitimacy that the Rodman/Hogan vs Malone/DDP match did in the 1990s. However, it also represents two generational icons going at it like Rock vs Hogan at WM 18. So Rock and Cena should be the best of both worlds- two pop cultural giants who can put on a great wrestling match (hypothetically). It's no surprise then that the WWE made their WM28 match the main event the day after Wrestlemania. Not only was the hype still hot from Wrestlemania 27, it automatically put the whole of the wrestling audience on notice that this was an event not to be missed.
