2. Bret Hart In WCW

Re-watch Bret Hart's time in WCW between 1997-2000 and you'll literally see moments where he looks around like, 'Why am I even here?'. In truth, Bret didn't want to jump to the competition at all. He liked the thought of the huge money Eric Bischoff had put on the table, but he was loyal to Vince McMahon and the WWF.

Then, a nasty little 'Montreal Screwjob' came along and he had no choice.

Regardless of which camp you side with, the 'Screwjob' was brutal. Hart had been doing some of his finest work in '97, then he was squeezed out before landing awkwardly on a saturated WCW roster full of egos, guaranteed paydays and sneaky sharks looking to protect their own interests.

Sure, you need to have a bit of selfishness to succeed as a top star in pro wrestling, but Bret was more of a team player than most. That made him stick out like the proverbial sore thumb on Nitro and Thunder. Also, it's worth saying that Bischoff didn't really know what to do with the 'Hitman', so he was crammed into the never-ending nWo narrative and forced to deal with it. That angle really was all-consuming, and not always in a good way.

Hart had been a WWF foot soldier since 1984, and he was one of the men trusted with the top spots post-Hogan, so it was frankly bizarre to see him strutting around to different music on WCW programming. The entire run left a sour taste in his mouth, and he was never the same post-Survivor Series 1997 anyway.
