15 Awesome WWE Sagas To Binge-Watch On Netflix Over Christmas

15. NXT’s Glory Days

WWE's developmental wing has experienced a stunning return to form in recent times. It's a million times better than the dreary 2.0 era was, put it that way. Even so, it's really tough for NXT to match anything from the golden period of TakeOver specials that blended WWE's production values with a decidedly non-Vince McMahon mish mash of independent wrestling style and even some New Japan influence.

There's a fair whack of TakeOvers on Netflix via the 'NXT Vault'. Dive into that, and you'll find everything from the first Arrival event in February 2014 (Cesaro vs. Sami Zayn and Neville vs. Bo Dallas are both must see from that) to arguably the last hurrah of 'Black & Gold' class 2021 pre-2.0 rebrand. Honestly, pretty much any of these are worth your time, so you might end up watching them in sequence.

Do that, and you'll be treated to banging matches starring the likes of Adam Cole, Aleister Black, Johnny Gargano, Tommaso Ciampa, Bayley, Sasha Banks and others. Indeed, some of the bouts that latter duo had against one another could rank as some of the greatest WWE matches of all time. That's seriously high praise considering the depth of quality elsewhere.

Triple H cultivated something special down in NXT between 2014-2021. There were peaks and troughs in that timeframe, but the quality bar was generally set to really f'n high. Go mad with it. If 2014 and the aforementioned Arrival show sounds just a little too early, then anything from 2015-2019 is a real sweet spot.

Top Recommendation: Andrade defending his NXT Title vs. Johnny Gargano at TakeOver: Philadelphia in 2018.
