As WWE careens toward a two-night SummerSlam that is facing dire ticket sales and an impending tall order to make a mostly empty stadium look full, one would think they would try to deliver a stellar go-home episode of Raw to try to juice a couple thousand more tickets.
Instead, WWE produced a video package-heavy, unfunny and unimaginative go-home show that did nothing to build interest in any of its matches for this weekend. In fact, the only true positives to come out of Raw were three of its matches, all involving wrestlers who aren’t currently booked for SummerSlam.
The weigh-in between Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi was a massive disappointment, inserting the Hell in a Cell structure into the mix and then not doing the one thing that would have made it a truly fun, memorable confrontation.
Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns rehashed every bullet point of their previous promo battles during the past month, proving that there’s no real substance to this beyond WWE’s own hype.
WWE even managed to take two of its proven comedy acts, Joe Hendry and Danhausen, and stick them together in a decidedly unfunny segment that epically bombed.
If you were on the fence about traveling to Minnesota and buying a ticket, this program surely didn’t tip the scales in the “part with your hard-earned money” direction.
