While they may have emerged victorious at WWE Saturday Night's Main Event last night, things got a little heated backstage between CM Punk and Cody Rhodes once they were done with Gunther and Sami Zayn.

In that tag match - where Gunther and Sami would be added to Punk vs. Rhodes WWE Championship match at SummerSlam, should they win - the finish saw SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis pop up with an assist. After Gunther had hit Cody with the WWE Title and a powerbomb, Aldis appeared and pulled the referee out of the ring to stop the three-count. From there, the Brit hit Gunther with the WWE Championship, which allowed Punk to hit the Ring General with the GTS, and then place Rhodes on top of Gunther to get the 1-2-3.

Throughout this match, there were several moments where CM Punk was knocked into Cody Rhodes, of Cody accidentally hitting Punk with a Disaster Kick, and Punk even accidentally caught the American Nightmare in the eye with his title. And while the two celebrated together in the ring post-match, including Cody handing the Second City Saint his WWE Championship, things boiled over backstage during a WWE Digital exclusive.

As Jackie Redmond attempted to grab a few words with CM Punk, that was interrupted by an unhappy Cody Rhodes. What started relatively calmly quickly escalated, with both men getting into a shouting match, plenty of expletives thrown out, producer Bobby Roode stepping in, and even Trick Williams attempting to calm Cody down.

All of this nicely sets the tone for the next few weeks, as we gear up for SummerSlam, which takes place at Minneapolis' US Bank Stadium over the weekend of August 1st and 2nd, with Punk vs. Rhodes expected to headline Night 1.
