3 Ups & 8 Downs From WWE Raw (27 Jul - Results & Review)
DOWNS…
8. Botching Big Cass?
It might be unfair to start firing off “downs” toward a return that hasn’t even happened yet, but if the vignettes that have appeared thus far are any indication, WWE is running the risk of botching Big Cass’ return to the company.
Cass is the rare wrestler who has a natural charisma and sense of humor that comes through effortlessly. We saw this on display during his run as Big Bill in AEW, where he was serious at times, but often infused his brand of banter into his presentation.
Just because Cass is “seven-foot-tall” and was being pegged for big things at the time of his WWE release in 2018 doesn’t mean that we need a redemption story, as the vignettes are clearly outlining. In fact, it’s incredibly short-sighted to focus on this arc. Cass wrestled as a serious heel in singles action for all of one year, though he was out of action with an injury for eight of those months.
If they’re following through with this redemption arc and this isn’t a swerve, then WWE is basing his presentation on a four-month run (two two-month bookends around the injury) that ended eight years ago.
This is getting a mild down for now, because everything could be undone next week and Cass could come out and kill it.
