6 Most Insane Wrestling Reports Ever Published

4. Oh, Dave

Back in 2017, Kenny McIntosh, of Inside The Ropes magazine and live events, attended a WWE house show in Glasgow, Scotland. He tweeted a joke. When the show arrived at half-time, and the production staff displayed an ‘INTERMISSION’ graphic, the WWE logo was positioned above it. It looked not unlike a pay-per-view logo, which Kenny had a bit of fun with, jesting that WWE had announced what would have then been the first canon pay-per-view on UK shores since SummerSlam 1992.

This was a joke. It did not even qualify as a hoax because the word ‘Intermission’ is almost the antithesis of a cliched wrestling show name. ‘Intermission’ is close to an antonym of ‘Action’, which is what promoters tend to go for when naming an event. Without second-sourcing the tweet nor stopping for a solitary second to consider what the word ‘Intermission’ means, Dave Meltzer blabbed it as fact on Observer Radio before he was roundly buried and forced to issue the funniest correction of all time. No, WWE wasn’t going to run a pay-per-view that would consist entirely of breaks. That would not happen until WrestleMania 42. Poor Dave fell for what wasn’t even a hoax.

This wasn’t the only social media gag that Dave thought was real, either. One NJPW fan was jazzed when Kazuchika Okada tore off his flared trousers to reveal the return of the trunks at Wrestle Kingdom 2013. In an exaggerated meme post, they inserted the trunks reveal over footage of fans in a pub throwing their pints in the air in celebration of an England goal at the Euros.

Dave must’ve thought Okada was as big as Matt LeBlanc in England.
