3. Drew McIntyre = “Future World Champion”

Generally, if Vince McMahon publicly says that someone is going to be WWE or World Heavyweight Champion, then a title push follows shortly thereafter. Not for Drew McIntyre. Then-boss McMahon told the world that the Scot would be on top of the mountain ASAP during a 'pass the torch' promo on the 25 September 2009 edition of SmackDown.

Vince introduced Drew as a ‘Chosen One’, and said he’d be “a future World Heavyweight Champion”. It was a glowing appraisal, and the kind that should've led to top line success for McIntyre. Unfortunately, despite being put over as one to watch by the single most powerful man in the entire industry, Drew would have to wait almost 11 years to bring McMahon's words to life.

It was a bumpy road to get there, but McIntyre eventually seized the WWE Title in 2020 by beating Brock Lesnar at the super-weird WrestleMania 36. WWE's writers might whip together some ideas ahead of time, but even they don’t book stuff that far in advance! Being 11 years out is pretty unique.

You wouldn't think anybody who slumped down the card, lost blindfold bouts to Santino Marella and became part of a lower-card comedy faction (3MB) before being fired in 2014 would become WWE Champ. Drew proved he had it in him all along though. It just took him a while to ring true as the future great Vince predicted him to be.

11 years is a lifetime in pro wrestling, so it's genuinely astonishing that this happened at all.
