Ranking Every WWE WrestleMania Main Event - From Worst To Best
38. Hulk Hogan and Mr T vs Paul Orndorff and Roddy Piper (WrestleMania)
The first ever WrestleMania is the stuff of legend. With Vince McMahon quite literally betting everything he had on the event being a hit, it's no exaggeration to say that this event might be the most important night in pro wrestling history. It's importance cannot be understated, as WWE created the event that changed everything.
The main event of the first WrestleMania featured Hulk Hogan and Mr T, the 80s cultural icon of The A-Team and Rocky 3, against the heel team of Paul Orndorff and 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper. WrestleMania is ordinarily defined by its final match and the story around it, but this night was more about defining the spectacle of The Showcase Of The Immortals, more than the main event itself.
Cyndi Lauper had earlier been part of the women's championship match between Wendi Richter and Leilani Kai, but WWE threw everything they had at the main event. Muhammad Ali entered proceedings as special guest referee, Liberace was the time-keeper, and legendary New York Yankees man Billy Martin served as ring announcer, as WWE turned Madison Square Garden into a festival of entertainment. Hogan and Mr T emerged victorious in a match that is as ropey as you'd expected, but that hardly matters when the encounter is carried by era-defining star power.
