17. Macho Man Randy Savage vs Ted Dibiase (WrestleMania 4)

WrestleMania 4 is the only time the WWE Championship has been decided by a tournament at WrestleMania. 'Macho Man' Randy Savage vs 'The Million Dollar Man' Ted DiBiase was a classic case of the underdog overcoming the odds to beat the man with all of the money. It's simple and easy to get behind, and in Randy Savage, the WWE had the perfect person for fans to rally behind.

The WWE Championship had been vacated by WWE President Jack Tunney, after Andre the Giant had tried selling the title to 'The Million Dollar Man'. A 14-man tournament was put in place for WrestleMania 4, and in a shocking turn of events, Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant were both eliminated in their first round match-up in a double disqualification. With 'The Million Dollar Man' set to face the winner of that match, Ted Dibiase received a bye into the final after beating 'Hacksaw' Jim Duggan and Don Muraco in the first two rounds.

After stealing the show at WrestleMania 3 with one of the greatest matches of all time against Ricky Steamboat, Randy Savage had become a fan favourite throughout 1987 and into 1988. He battled his way through Butch Reed, Greg 'The Hammer Valentine', and the 'One Man Gang' to reach the final. Depleted against the fresher DiBiase, Savage's guts dragged him over the line to defeat 'The Million Dollar Man' to win the WWE Championship, and the image of him and Miss Elizabeth celebrating the victory is one of the most iconic in WWE history.
