Roman Reigns vs. Logan Paul may have occupied most of the headlines coming out of WWE Crown Jewel 2022, but Drew Gulak has been described as the event's "unsung hero."

This comes from Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Prior to Crown Jewel, WWE sent Paul a ring so that he could train for Reigns in Puerto Rico, with Gulak travelling down as the YouTuber-turned-wrestler's personal coach.

Drew ended up handling the bulk of Logan's preparation for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship match, though Paul also went to the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida to work with Shawn Michaels. It was during these sessions that WWE captured the footage of Paul's preparation for the pre-match video packages.

PWInsider had reported prior to Crown Jewel 2022 that Gulak and Shane Helms would be helping Paul prepare for Roman, with others possibly involved as well.

Drew Gulak Trains Logan Paul

Gulak's handiwork manifested in a critically acclaimed main event between Paul and Reigns. In only his third pro wrestling match, having worked his first at WrestleMania 38 seven months ago, Logan attracted huge plaudits. Although defeated, Paul's performance opposite WWE's doyen was lightyears ahead of his experience level.

But the performance came at a cost. Paul currently faces up to nine months on the sidelines after badly injuring his knee during the Reigns match, with Meltzer reporting Logan was hurt while hitting a Frog Splash through the announce table from the top rope.

Gulak, meanwhile, is scarcely seen on WWE television these days. Competing primarily on the house show circuit, last SmackDown match came against Karrion Kross on 26 August.

Drew joins not only Helms, but also Adam Pearce, in helping prepare Paul for one of his big matches. As reported in April, the onscreen authority figure played a role in tuning Logan up for his and The Miz's 'Mania tag team bout.
