10 Comics Where You Couldn’t Help But Root For The Villain

8. The Punisher - Punisher Kills The Marvel Universe

Wanted Image Comics
Marvel Comics

The Punisher is not a hero. An ex-military serial killer with a guns and skull fetish, Frank Castle is a straight-up monster. No matter how one feels about vigilante justice, the Punisher is not a hero. And yet, that hasn't stopped readers (for better or far worse) from latching onto the character, giving him a popularity to rival many a caped hero.

No writer has toed the line between anti-hero and villain like Garth Ennis. In Punisher Kills the Marvel Universe, we saw what happens when Frank Castle truly lets loose on the capes.

In an alternate universe where the X-Men were (indirectly) responsible for the death of his family, Frank blamed all superheroes, and set out on a bloody campaign to kill each and every one of them. And you know what? In spite of Frank cutting swathes through the Marvel Universe's most popular heroes, we kind of rooted for the guy, perversely excited to see what he'd do next. Not bad, for not a hero.
